Chase has raised the annual fee for its Sapphire Reserve card from $550 to $795, effective June 23, 2025. This marks the steepest price increase since the card’s debut in 2016. The move aims to make the card more rewarding for high spenders by adding up to $2,700 in annual benefits, including travel, dining, lifestyle, and entertainment perks.

New benefits include 8× points on travel booked through Chase Travel, 4× points on direct flights and hotels, a $500 hotel credit via “The Edit,” IHG Platinum Elite status, and increased value with the new Points Boost feature. Lifestyle perks now feature Apple TV+ and Apple Music subscriptions, $120 in Peloton credits, and up to $300 for entertainment tickets, while existing perks like DoorDash and Lyft credits remain unchanged.

Experts warn the card now targets big spenders; unlocking top benefits requires an annual spend of $75,000, well above average cardholder habits. The decision will require customers to carefully weigh their usage and spending patterns to ensure the extra fee brings real value.

The fee hike pushes the Sapphire Reserve ahead of Amex Platinum’s $695 annual cost, signaling a trend toward more costly premium cards with richer perks .
